Check Out This Island Where Everybody Lives Totally “Off The Grid”

No Money and No Keys.

Imagine an island so secluded there’s no electricity, there are no paved roads and in many cases, no plumbing. That island – called Lasqueti – is home to 400 people and less than an hour away from Vancouver.

There is a growing trend of people becoming more interested in an autonomous lifestyle where going back to basics becomes the norm instead of daydreams. Lasqueti seems to capture and exemplify that trend.

There is a dark side of sorts. Only about 40% of the people who come to the island can actually hack it. Many come with big dreams and high hopes, only to find they don’t have what it takes to live off the land.

But all in all, this island truly seems to have it all. Outsiders seem shocked that although they feel as if they are going back in time, the island and its inhabitants aren’t primitive.

Come take a look!

“It does not mean living in the stone age, it’s not about bush craft. It’s about generating your own power, your own water, dealing with your own waste. Probably as part of a community, not living on your own like a hermit. It’s also about being more self-reliant and being less dependent on the system. Perhaps realizing that the system isn’t really protecting us anymore and we have to look after ourselves.” – George Noory From Coast To Coast Am
